Speaker's Biography

Dr Luca Trenta (Chair) - Associate Professor in International Relations, Swansea University

Professor Tommy Curry (University of Edinburgh) - is one of our two speakers at the event. He is a professor in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. His research interests are in African Philosophy and the Black Radical Tradition. His areas of specialization are: 19th century ethnology, Critical Race Theory, Social Political Theory, and Black Male Studies. He is the author of The Man-Not: Race, Class, Genre, and the Dilemmas of Black Manhood (Temple University Press 2017), which won the 2018 American Book Award.

Ashlee Godwin (RUSI/Atlantic Council) - is our second speaker for the event. She is a Senior Specialist in national security and international policy at the UK House of Commons. There, she runs a team of experts providing policy expertise and consultancy, working in support of all international-facing Select Committees.

America, Europe and the Future of History

The 'Unfolding Our Shared Future: Challenge, Possibility and Potential in the 21st Century' talk series - a travelling festival addressing issues facing the US and UK in domestic, trans-Atlantic and global contexts.

The series is delivered by the American Politics Group of the Political Studies Association and the host universities with the support of the British Association of American Studies and US Embassy in London.

The Swansea event will look at how the international order might change over the next decade or so. Topics will include the US-UK Special Relationship and the impact of Brexit, the current conflict in Ukraine and its meaning for international politics and security. It will also explore issues related to the so-called International Liberal Order, its crisis, and the global response to it.
