Introduced by Professor Paul Boyle, Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University

The lecture will explain why Ludwig Wittgenstein, the leading philosopher of the Twentieth Century, spent a significant amount of time in Swansea from 1942-1947. Wittgenstein enjoyed his time in Swansea, which he shared with his friend and fellow philosopher Rush Rhees, who was lecturing at Swansea University. “Am I glad to be here” Wittgenstein said upon arrival in Swansea. The lecture will also examine some of the important work undertaken by Wittgenstein during these visits.
