Dr Richard Smith is a senior police officer in the Metropolitan Police Service, London. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Police Leadership and Management from the University of Warwick and an MBA from the University of Northampton. Richard is also a graduate of the University of Portsmouth, holding an MSc in Policing, Policy and Leadership and a Doctorate in Criminal Justice.
His research interests include police reform, police leadership and organisational culture. Richard has published extensively in international journals and acts as a peer reviewer for a number of high-profile publications in the Criminal Justice sector. Dr Smith is co-editor of the Police Journal: Theory, Practice and Principles and in 2018 was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, spending six months at the City University of New York. In January 2022, Dr Smith was appointed as an Honorary Research Fellow at Swansea University.
