Beverley Guess

Speaker's Biography

Beverley Guess has been working at Swansea University for 20 years in roles largely focused on helping academics work in collaboration with external stakeholders (private, public sector and third sector organisations). She is a qualified Agile Change Manager and the Impact Manager for Swansea University responsible for the Research Excellence Framework Impact portfolio across the institution covering all aspects of impact stemming from health and wellbeing of people, and animal welfare; impacts on creativity, culture and society; impact on social welfare; impacts on commerce and the economy; impacts on public policy, law and services; impacts on production; impacts on practitioners and delivery of professional services, enhanced performance or ethical practice; impacts on the environment and impacts on understanding, learning and participation.

She manages a team of impact and engagement professionals based across the three research hubs supporting our three Faculties along with a team of professional service experts in business engagement and development. In addition to the above, Beverley is the Project Manager for the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account.

Beverley graduated Bristol Business School with a BA (Hons) Degree in Business Administration and has a strong background in business development, the protection of intellectual property and consultancy.

Beverley enjoys supporting her high performing teams and engaging with stakeholders, research users and beneficiaries beyond the university. Her knowledge spans over the wide spectrum of research, knowledge transfer, knowledge exchange, commercial and intellectual property activities within the Department of Research, Engagement and Innovation Services (REIS). She also actively drives the KE Concordat at Swansea University on behalf of REIS.

This course will help you distinguish between research impact and research promotion. We will cover research impact within the context of Higher Education and will aim to support you to build your own bespoke networks and engagement pathways.
