Professor Aoife Nolan, is a Professor of International Human Rights Law and Co-Director of the Human Rights Law Centre at the University of Nottingham. Professor Nolan’s professional experience in child rights straddles the legal, policy, practitioner and academic fields. She was elected to the Council of Europe's European Committee of Social Rights in November 2016. In 2018-9, she served on the Scottish First Minister’s Advisory Group on Human Rights Leadership and in 2019-20, she was a member of the Scottish Government’s UNCRC Working Group to input on the best model of incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scottish law.

She has published extensively in the areas of human rights and constitutional law, particularly in relation to children's rights and economic and social rights. From 2013-15, she was Academic Lead of the interdisciplinary University of Nottingham Children and Childhood Network and was founder and academic lead of the Nottingham Summer School on Child Rights. Professor Nolan has acted as an expert advisor to a wide range of international and national organisations and bodies working on child rights issues, including numerous UN Special Procedures, UN treaty-monitoring bodies, the Council of Europe, multiple NHRIs and NGOs. She currently leads a major global research collaboration between academic and advocacy partners on Advancing Child Rights Strategic Litigation.
