The SUSTAIN project is led by Professor David Worsley at Swansea University, and has been co-created by the five major UK steel producers (Tata, Liberty, British Steel, Celsa and Sheffield Forge Masters) and the three principal Universities that have significant expertise: Swansea, Warwick and Sheffield. The project launched in April 2019 and is sponsored by ESPRC, Welsh Government and the UK Steel Industry.

Its aim is to radically transform the carbon intensity of the process of producing the world’s most widely used advanced material and at the same time tailor its application to emerging manufacturing opportunities for electrification of transport, manufactured buildings and sustainable packaging.

SUSTAIN’s engagement event is creating a platform to enable additional institutions and industrial partners to join the project and apply for £1M funding through the Research Expansion Hub.

Participants can expect to engage in a range of workshops and discussion panels. Sessions will be facilitated by professional academics.

The morning will consist of inspiring talks from our key speakers. Following a networking lunch, the afternoon has been divided into a number of key themes including:
• Emissions Management and Utilisation
• Zero Waste Steel Making
• Data Driven Innovation
• Smart Low Energy Production
• New Processes for New Products
