In this presentation we move away from pharaohs and elite men, to catch a glimpse of what life may have been like for the rest of the Ancient Egyptian population. We will explore what the lifetime of a girl living in Lahun might have been like during the Late Middle Kingdom. Using the material and textual evidence as much as possible from the settlement of Lahun, we explore how to reconstruct the life of a non-royal individual, from her birth, through childhood, adulthood, religious practices, sickness and death, and of course, even love.
This month’s lecture will follow the Friends of the Egypt Centre AGM, which begins at 6.30pm and is held at the same venue as the lecture. All Friends are welcome and are encouraged to attend.
