Celebrate the power of protest and creativity in shaping disability rights. Join us for a creative, accessible celebration marking 30 years of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
This half-day event, led by disabled artists and researchers, honours the activism that led to the DDA and reflects on its legacy and the progress of disability rights since 1995. Held in accessible venue Insole Court, the event begins with a short introduction to the DDA and the history of disability activism in the UK.
The event will culminate with a joyful birthday party for the DDA complete with music, cake, and community connection.
The event is supported by research from Swansea and Cardiff Universities and draws on upcoming work by historian David Turner (Disability: A History of Resistance).
This event is part of the Cardiff University and Swansea University Being Human Festival 2025 Hub Programme.
