Steeltown Schoolkids: Children’s Chapter is a creative exhibition showcasing the voices and visions of young people from Port Talbot. An event will mark the launch of the exhibition on 7 November (book using the link below) and the exhibition is open 7 - 15 November from 11:00-17:00 for drop ins.

Hosted at The Art Space, Port Talbot, the exhibition features artwork and storytelling, exploring the town’s past, present, and imagined futures. From play, local identity, aspirations and opportunities to their experiences of growing up in a ‘steel town’, the work on display is thoughtful, bold, and deeply rooted in lived experience. By focusing on youth perspectives, the exhibition challenges the dominance of adult voices in local history and wellbeing conversations.

This event invites children, families, educators, and the wider community to engage with fresh, creative interpretations of Port Talbot’s identity- offering a space for dialogue, imagination, and connection.

This event is part of the Cardiff University and Swansea University Being Human Festival 2025 Hub Programme.
