Speaker's BiographySenior Impact & Evaluation Consultant for Walcott Communications.
Helen joined WCL from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), where she has worked as a Senior Evidence Manager, leading analysis to understand and articulate the value and impact of arts and humanities research. In this role, she has provided thought leadership on impact and evaluation for AHRC investments, including the Global Challenges Research Fund, drawing on previous experience in the international development sector. A skilled facilitator, Helen has trained AHRC colleagues in identifying and articulating impact and in reviewing research outcomes in Researchfish and other reports, to produce case studies for briefings, reporting and communication purposes.
This workshop will give participants inspiration and skills to proactively and effectively communicate their research and its impact to a variety of audiences, utilising tailored messages, appropriate methods, and the power of storytelling.
The learning objectives:
● How to tailor communication messages and methods for different audiences: understanding their needs and preferences
● How to apply the universal principles of storytelling to common dissemination methods such as press releases, policy briefs, social media, visual storytelling
● Practice communicating your research (and impact) effectively
The workshop will consist of two online 1.5-hour sessions.
Session 1:
● An exploration of storytelling principles and their application in articulating research impact, including examples from various disciplines.
● A practical exercise where participants will develop the story arc for their own research impact.
