Care Leavers and students estranged from their parents, like all our students, may face a variety of practical and emotional challenges, disruptions and barriers when accessing and attending Higher Education. The purpose of this session is to increase awareness for staff of these challenges and the service offered by Participation@CampusLife to eligible Care Leavers and students estranged from their parents. The session will provide opportunities for staff to engage in scenarios that may be presented and discuss best approaches. The aim is to increase confidence in faculty and support staff in supporting these students with queries and concerns from application through to graduation. The session will also inform staff of how and when to refer students to Participation, how students can identify themselves to Participation@CampusLife, the eligibility criteria and additional support available to eligible students.

Aims:
• Understand the service offered by Participation@CampusLife.
• Outline how students can notify Participation@CampusLife of their circumstances, the eligibility criteria and evidence required to be able to determine eligibility.
• Highlight the barriers Care Leavers and students estranged from their parents can face when accessing and remaining in higher education.
• Explain how all staff can advise and support students who are Care Leavers or estranged from their parents.

Target Audience:
All staff. This session is relevant to all who engage with and support students
