Dementia is hard to talk about. For filmmakers, it’s proved even harder to represent without resorting to stereotypes and cliches. Whilst global cases of dementia are projected to triple to 152 million by 2050, meaningful and positive representations of people living with the condition have long been absent from our screens.
The ‘Screening Dementia’ project aims to challenge this by highlighting stories of resilience, love, and the fulfilled lives of those living with dementia and their caregivers.
Join us for a free screening of one such story: Kirsten Johnson's funny, moving and highly original 2020 documentary Dick Johnson is Dead.
We’ll be screening the film in the Studio on the ground floor of Taliesin Create on Friday 20 September starting at 4pm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with researchers in both Film and Dementia care.
You can also browse our exhibition exploring the history of dementia representation in film and TV and enjoy free refreshments and snacks throughout.
Tickets are free and the event is open to all! Please use the Evenbrite link to reserve a spot and access further information about the venue, travel and accessibility: https://t.ly/pPDBn
This event is part of the 'Screening Dementia' Project, funded by the Welsh Crucible
