The Graduate Outcomes survey delivered by HESA replaced the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey since its inception in 2017/18. The survey takes place 15 months post-graduation.

The responses to the survey feed directly into university league table methodology and TEF award status. League table position, employability rankings and TEF award status are among the main factors influencing where students choose to study (Department of Education 2019, UCAS Student Decision Survey 2019 & UCAS Youth Insight 2020).

HESA set strict response targets for universities, in order for them to ‘publish and use the data’. It is crucial that the university promotes the survey to departing students and recent graduates to meet these targets.

One of the main objectives from the Graduate Outcomes team is to provide opportunities for staff across the university to learn about the survey and the impact it has on our university.

This training session provides you with the tools you need to influence students you might be in contact with, to allow them to understand the importance of the survey, how it works and encourage them to participate. It also provides you the opportunity to understand the data and results generated from the survey so you can use this insight to measure the impact of your services/courses, see where our students end up and identify strengths and areas for improvement.

Aims:

1.) Understand what the graduate outcomes survey is and the differences from the previous DLHE survey.
2.) Understand why the graduate outcomes survey is important to everyone at the university and an insight into the current work that is on-going.
3.) Understand how the survey works.
4.) Understand the data and results generated from the survey and how you can use this insight to measure your courses/services, see where our students end up, identify strengths and areas for improvement.
5.) Provide you with the information and tools you need to influence students you might be in contact with, to allow them to understand the importance of the survey, how it works and encourage them to participate.

All staff are encouraged to attend.
Particularly those who are in regular contact with students and recent graduates or would like more insight into the data the Graduate Outcomes Survey can produce.
