This year's Holocaust Memorial Day theme is Fragility of Freedom. Swansea University will commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day on Thursday, 25th January 2024, with an online Zoom event from 11 am to 12 pm. Our guest speaker, Peter Kammerling, will share the story of his parents, Walter and Herta Kammerling.
Walter arrived in England on the Kindertransport at the age of 15 and worked on a farm in Northern Ireland. After three years there, Walter moved to London. Walter married Herta Plaschkes, a refugee from Vienna, in Salisbury in 1944. Peter will share the story of Walter's life and provide a very personal and intimate portrait of how the separation from and ultimate loss of his immediate family deeply affected him.
