Students presenting the work are part of the MSc Conservation Practice course at Cardiff University. This hands-on conversion programme teaches conservation using problem-based learning on real heritage objects, over a period of two years.
The practical laboratory work is supervised by Phil Parkes, an accredited conservator with 30 years’ experience of conserving Egyptian material including reconstructing a faience doorway from beneath the pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara (currently on display at the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar).
From: 15 Feb 2023, 7 p.m.The Egypt Centre has a long-standing relationship with the conservation courses at Cardiff University, with students working on objects from the Centre, gaining experience of conservation and helping preserve the collection.
The talk will highlight the recent conservation work carried out on Egypt Centre objects including the plaster base of the Djedhor statue, papyrus fragments from the Book of the Dead, a stone stela, a wooden boat model and a bone knife.
