Speaker's Biography

• Mark Reed is Professor of Rural Entrepreneurship and Director of the Thriving Natural Capital Challenge Centre at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), and a Visiting Professor at Newcastle University, Birmingham City University and the University of Leeds. He has over 200 publications that have been cited more than 20,000times and has won awards for the non-academic impact of his research. He is author of The Research Impact Handbook, The Productive Researcher and Impact Culture and CEO of Fast Track Impact. He provides training and advice to Universities, research funders, NGOs and policy-makers internationally

This session will give you everything you need to generate and communicate real-world impacts from your research. You will learn about practical tools to time-efficiently increase the significance and reach of your impact. Find out how to integrate impact into a competitive research funding proposal. Discuss techniques and strategies for increasing funding success rates from a trainer who has served as a co-chair, panelist and strategy board member for UKRI. Learn bid writing tools that will enable you to co-produce your proposal with key stakeholders and put what you learn into practice in a break-out room session where you will critique how impact was integrated into two contrasting example proposals. As part of the session, you will receive a pdf copy of the second edition of The Research Impact Handbook, with a hard copy to follow

• Learn about evidence-based principles for delivering research impact when you don’t have much time
• Discover easy and quick-to-use templates you can use immediately to:
o Prioritise stakeholders and publics to engage with first
o Create a powerful impact plan that will guarantee your research makes a difference without wasting your time
• Discuss tricks of the trade to increase your funding success rates
• Learn bid writing tools that will enable you to co-produce your proposal with key stakeholders
Find out how to integrate impact into a funding proposal (including an exercise to compare how impact was integrated into two contrasting example proposals)
