Speaker's BiographyDr Michael R.M. Ward is Senior Lecturer in Social Science at Swansea University. His work centres on the performance of working-class masculinities within and beyond educational institutions. From: 15 Nov 2022, 1 p.m.As a sociologist, who has worked in the field of critical studies of men and masculinity for over 15 years, IMD has always sat a little uneasy with me. How can a day both celebrate men, without looking like a false parallel to International Women’s Day? Does it help tackle gender inequality or look like a backlash against feminism? This talk will question the purpose and rationale of IMD, but also highlight how it can be used as a platform to highlight important issues around gender inequality and to challenge gender scripts that harm men and others around them.
