Building Rights Respecting Approaches: Entering a New Age in Youth Justice and Children’s Rights?

The COVID19 pandemic reinforced the reality that children’s rights remain fragile and that more can be done to support children who come into conflict with the law. Responding to these challenges, the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy, in partnership with the Observatory on the Human Rights of Children is offering a symposium on 26th October (09:00 - 17:00) during which the following themes will be explored:

- The state of children’s rights and youth justice post COVID19

- ‘Justice’ in practice

- Injustice in practice and policy

- Visualising new understandings of children’s rights and youth justice

The symposium will be offered on a face-to-face basis at Swansea University’s Singleton Campus and tickets are free.

During the symposium, perspectives on the themes above will be offered by a range of speakers including: Professor Jane Williams (Co-Director, Observatory on the Human Rights of Children); Dr Rhian Croke (Counsel to the Wales Children’s Legal Centre); Dr Helen Hodges (CASCADE); and Dr Anthony Charles (Co-ordinator, Swansea Youth Justice Research Team).

This event may be of interest to policy makers, practitioners, academics and students who have interests in children’s rights and youth justice.
