The staff carer's network will meet this Wednesday 9 June at 12.00-13.00 via the zoom link below. The SU Staff Carer's Network is run by staff carers for carers and is supported by the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research (CADR) and Athena SWAN. It has developed into a ‘safe space’ where people can feel supported to speak about their experiences as carers and be listened to by those who understand and care.

This week we will be celebrating Carers Week an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. This year we are coming together to Make Caring Visible and Valued.

At Swansea University, our 2020 staff culture survey recorded 167 staff who self-reported as carers but, given the national picture, it is likely that we have many more staff carers within our community. It is therefore vital that we raise awareness of care across our University, and ensure that it is visible, valued and supported.
