Peter Matthews
Join inaugural Swansea University Creativity Fellow artist Peter Matthews and marine biologist Dr Ruth Callaway as they discuss the creative processes of their interdisciplinary collaboration. Peter and Ruth, both fascinated by coastal environments, have spent the last 10 months exchanging knowledge, ideas, perspectives focusing on the sea and landscapes of Swansea Bay. Informed by Ruth's year's of study of the area Peter, a multi-award winning artist, is now preparing a major exhibition Grounded for the Glyn Vivian gallery. How has exposure to Ruth's research altered or influenced his work? How has his own experience as an artist painting and drawing along the world's coastlines changed Ruth's approach towards her subject as a scientist? And how has collaborating across disciplines at a time of lockdown and pandemic affected them both? Chaired by Professor in Creativity Owen Sheers and with elements of pre-recorded video by Peter Matthews, this promises to be a must-see event offering a rare insight into the creative and working processes of an artist and scientist working at the leading edges of their respective fields.
