This course consists of weekly object handling sessions supplemented by PowerPoint lectures. The primary focus will be the objects housed in the Egypt Centre, a museum containing over 5,000 Egyptian antiquities. This is a unique opportunity for participants to handle ancient objects, many of which are not on public display. The sessions in this course will concentrate on the ancient Egyptian view of death and the afterlife through their material culture. Participants will examine the tomb and its contents, which included servant figures, ritual and magical objects, and coffins. The development of mummification techniques will be discussed, with reference to primary sources and modern scientific investigation.

Note that these classes, limited to a maximum 15 people per course, will not result in any credits gained and no assessment will be required.
Cost: £100
Length of course: 10 x 2 hour sessions Thursday 16:00–18:00 or Thursday 18:30–20:30
