This innovative workshop has been specifically designed with participants from front-line burn services in low-and-middle-income settings in mind. The workshop will be held at Swansea University from 21st to 25th January 2019, hosted by the Centre for Global Burn Injury Policy and Research.
The NIHR Global Health Research Group on Burn Trauma, based at the Centre for Global Burn Injury Policy and Research is kicking off 2019 by organising an intensive international 5-day workshop on Implementation and Improvement Science. This innovative workshop has been specifically designed with participants from front-line burn services in low-and-middle-income settings in mind. The workshop will be held at Swansea University from 21st to 25th January 2019, hosted by the Centre.
International participants have been selected through a competitive application process based on their position in burn units in low resource settings, and their potential to make a real impact in their workplaces following the workshop. Their experience and role within their hospital means they will be perfectly placed to integrate the implementation and improvement skills and methods within their burn unit.
The interactive workshop will cover the principles of implementation science, improvement science and other related fields, such as leadership skills, agile care, and health economics. The practical focus and workshop activities will all be set up to maximise applied learning for burn centres in low resource settings and fragile environments.
We look forward to welcoming (head) nurses and surgeons from a range of burn units in hospitals and dedicated burn centres in low resource countries. These places see the more severe burns from large areas as they are often the only or one of a few such specialised centres in the country. Limited resources and difficult access means there are significant challenges to delivering equitable, affordable and effective burn care. Delegates also include those working at their country’s Ministry of Health and being involved in health care policy and implementation. We look forward to a rewarding week working with participants from Malawi, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Zambia, Nepal, Palestine, Afghanistan and the UK!
