Speaker's Biography

Jonathan Montgomery is Professor of Health Care Law at University College London. He is Chair of the Health Research Authority, established under the Care Act 2014. He is a member of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies and a non-executive director of Health Data Research UK. His previous public public service roles have included chairing the Nuffield Council on Bioethics (2012-17) and the Human Genetics Commission (2009-12). He gave the 5th Annual J Kenyon Mason lecture in 2017 on ‘New Bearings in Health Research Ethics: Towards a Social Contract Paradigm’.

Five essay prize finalists will defend their essays with a panel Q&A, followed by a drinks reception whilst judging takes place. Annual Lecture immediately following prize-giving.
