Speaker's Biography

Professor Richard Wyn Jones is Director of Cardiff University's Wales Governance Centre and Professor of Welsh Politics at Cardiff University. He has written extensively on contemporary Welsh politics, devolved politics in the UK and nationalism. Richard was one of the founders of Critical Security Studies and was previously Professor of Welsh Politics and founding Director of the Institute of Welsh Politics at the Department of International Politics, Aberystwyth University. Richard is a regular and widely respected broadcaster, commentating on Welsh politics in both Welsh and English for the BBC in Wales and across the UK. He has also presented two TV series and is a regular columnist for the Welsh language current affairs magazine Barn. Richard is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and the Academy of the Social Sciences.

The 2014 Independence referendum; The 2015 General Election; The 2016 Brexit Referendum; The 2017 General Election: the different political nationalities that exist within the state have caused a series of results that have shaken the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to its foundations. In this lecture, Professor Richard Wyn Jones will analyze the current trends and also explain why so many commentators and scholars have been so blind to the changes that have occurred under their noses.
