Location: National Waterfront Museum, Swansea

Have you ever judged a book by its cover? We are warned not to, but we do it every day because our faces say more about us than we ever imagined. Research shows we can detect personality in faces, and much more. Alex examines the judgements we make from facial appearance, and explores how first impressions can be true. He also demonstrates how to spot a healthy face, choose a leader based on their appearance, and how to tell introverts and extroverts apart.

During this lecture, Alex also builds the face of Swansea by taking pictures of people and then building a composite picture that represents the people who live here and asking: what does the face of Swansea say about its inhabitants? In doing so, he shows us how we make judgements from appearances and how to be better armed to change them.
The Swansea Science Café offers opportunities for anyone to find out more about new, exciting and topical areas of science. Designed to be informal and entertaining, entry is free and talks start at 7:30 pm at the National Waterfront Museum.
