Speaker's Biography

John V Tucker is Professor of Computer Science at Swansea University. In addition to being an authority on the theory of computers and computation, he a scholar of the history of computing and of the history of science and technology in Wales. He is a founding Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and a Member of Academia Europaea.

Computers have heralded 'revolution' continuously since the 1950s. Certainly they have delivered great change in most aspects of life, and the call of 'revolution' is as loud and insistent as ever. What was Swansea's role in this 70-year digital transformation? I will explore computing in our region and computing research and education in Swansea University from its beginnings.
