About MMEG
The major aim of Microbial Ecology is to understand the roles microbes play in their terrestrial, aquatic, aerial or glacial environments, whether this is a natural, engineered, or living ecosystem. Modern molecular approaches are critical to determine the dynamics and functional traits of microbial communities and how microbes interact with other microbes and their hosts.

The annual MMEG meeting aims to provide an informal platform for Early Career Microbiologist (ECMs) and early-career postdoctoral researchers to present their research in microbiomes, microbial ecology and environmental/applied microbiology, facilitating ample opportunities for discussion and networking. Experienced microbial ecologists contribute to the meeting via provision of a supportive environment, via a keynote and/or via a workshop for skills and personal development, e.g. ‘bioinformatics skills for molecular ecology/microbiome studies’ or a careers development panel discussion.
